Using gentle mobilizations and adjustments, our Toronto and Markham chiropractors provide options suitable for all ages.
Chiropractors provide a drug-free adjunct to health care. It is considered one of the largest primary care professions in Ontario, with a focus on joint, muscle, nerve, tendon and ligament health. It is not just a pain-response therapy - chiropractors provide a preventative care for the spine, pelvis, and extremities. Using a series of biomechanical and orthopedic tests and assessments, chiropractors formulate a diagnosis and plan of management.
Depending on what's revealed in the assessment, chiropractors use a combination of specific treatments to get you to full function. Following a thorough history and the formulation of a diagnosis, a chiropractor will develop a comprehensive plan of management that includes recommended rehabilitative exercises, massage, joint mobilizations, and lifestyle counseling.
For common conditions, like low back pain, chiropractic is often a recommended treatment. Chiropractic offers supportive and complementary treatments for a variety of conditions that involves the neuromusculoskeletal system.
Prehab is a form of exercise that involves strength training, stability / mobility exercises, stretching, and form correction before you get injured. They are incorporated into your current exercise routine, warm up or cool down, and is important for maintaining physical fitness and athletic performance. The goals involved include strengthening muscles, increasing flexibility, improving function, developing proprioception, and increasing tissue strength and health.
Originally pre-hab was used to prepare you for surgery but now can be used by everyone and anyone. Prehabilitation has been shown to improve outcomes following surgery, decreasing pain, and preventing complications, particularly in those who were previously inactive prior to a hip or knee replacement.
Joint Manipulation is commonly known as back adjustments or chiropractic adjustments. This therapy is used to improve range of motion in a joint and to reduce pain. An audible crack or pop may be heard. This is created from the release of gas bubbles found in the joint fluid.
Spinal adjustments provide an analgesic effect by inhibiting peripheral pain and stimulating mechanoreceptors in the joint capsule. Pain is also reduced as endorphins are released as a result of the manipulation. Adjustments also promote synovial fluid circulation which helps to provide cartilage the nutrition it needs to heal.
Joint manipulations also work by ‘resetting’ local proprioceptors, and by stimulating a stretch-reflex through golgi tendon bodies and muscle spindles. Joint Mobilizations are a lower grade of movement that gently oscillates the joints that have mechanical movement limitations.
With a name like Rehab Hero, our primary focus is to restore your normal movement with the use of rehabilitation or rehab exercises. These exercises involve restoring joint range of motion, motor reprogramming, motor patterning, stretching and strengthening. Exercises are essential for long term results in recovering tissues to their pre-injury state (or even stronger than their pre-injury state).
These types of exercises are not limited to those who have undergone surgical procedures or acute traumatic injuries (fractures, sprains, strains), but also for minor injuries, aches, and pains. Rehab exercises have also been shown to have the greatest impact for reducing pain and improving function.
Soft Tissue Therapy includes any type of hands-on therapy that targets the muscles, ligaments, and tendons of your body including myofascial release therapy, deep tissue massage, or sports massage. It is used for sports and overuse injuries, and helps muscles to return to their baseline function. This category also includes modalities such as cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue therapy (aka scrapping), and percussive massage (massage gun).
We offer acupuncture here at Rehab Hero in the form of Medical Acupuncture, and with or without intramuscular stimulation (IMS) or electro-acupuncture. The benefits of acupuncture include pain relief through an analgesic effect, improved healing times through the release of growth hormone, and improved local circulation. It is used for improving healing and for the restoration of healing nerve and muscle function.
