We focus on the root of your problem, not just the symptoms you experience. We aim to give you the best possible physiotherapy treatment.
Your physiotherapist will work with you on your goals by creating a realistic and achievable plan. Short term goals can include improving movement and reducing pain. Long term goals may focus on injury prevention, longevity, and movement optimization. We help you to return to the sports you love, the work that puts food on the table, and back to living the independent life you deserve. Let us help you.
At Rehab Hero, expect to work one-on-one with a physiotherapist every single time. Our clinic has closed treatment rooms for privacy and open concept treatment areas for easy access to the movement space and gym. Your first visit will start with a thorough examination that includes a verbal history, a movement assessment, joint range of motion tests, orthopedic tests, and neurological examination. If we feel it is required, you will be referred out to your medical doctor for further examination in the form of x-rays, MRI, diagnostic ultrasound, bone scans, blood work and laboratory tests, medical records, and surgical notes. This information will be used to determine both your diagnosis and plan of management.
Your Physiotherapist is then going to use all information gathered during the Initial Assessment to create your individualized and customized treatment plan. Your physiotherapist involves you every step of the way in your unique plan to achieve your goals.
There are no cookie cutter treatments here.
By definition physiotherapy is an umbrella term used to include many different treatments including rehab/prehab, deep tissue massage, acupuncture, myofascial release, and joint mobilization. Each and every time you come to a physio treatment it will be different as it depends on how you feel and how you move that day. This treatment will follow a movement assessment and it will be individualized to you.
Soft Tissue Mobilization refers to the type of manual therapy that involves massaging muscles. At the Rehab Hero Clinic all therapists are trained to perform Soft Tissue Mobilization in the form of Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage or Myofascial Release Therapy.
With this type of therapy it is not uncommon to feel some soreness in the first two days following treatment. This soreness is similar to the same type of soreness experienced after your first workout (known as delayed onset muscle soreness). This occurs because the muscles are recovering from controlled microtrauma created from the massage.
The goal of this type of treatment is to reduce pain, restore joint function, and to reduce muscular tension. Soft Tissue Mobilization can be used for not only acute but also repetitive trauma.
Joint Mobilization is a therapeutic modality that is used to restore joint motion and function. Your physiotherapist will gently mobilize it in the direction that it is limited in. This can be used on any joint including your hands, feet, hips, shoulders, and spine. Joint Mobilization is often used for joint related issues including rib joint irritation or hypomobility. Occasionally you may hear a soft audible noise which is a normal occurrence when gas from joint fluid is released. Mobilization helps to circulate joint fluid to promote the delivery of nutrients to the cartilage of your joint.
Rehab or Rehabilitation refers to exercises that are used for injuries. These types of exercises are prescribed following your initial assessment. Depending on your injury, these types of exercises could focus on proprioception, motor control or patterning, muscle strengthening or endurance, joint stability, or flexibility. These exercises will restore your joint function, reduce pain, reduce muscular tension, and return your body to it’s functional baseline.
Exercise is the current gold standard for long term results. At the Rehab Hero clinic, rehab is used in combination with therapies such as joint and soft tissue manipulation.
Prehab is the prescription of exercises to prepare you for surgical intervention or to prevent injuries. Prescribed exercises will be based off of a comprehensive initial assessment that takes a look at deficits in flexibility, range of motion, strength, endurance or stability. No injuries are required to be prescribed prehab exercises as they are preventative in nature.
Prehab is used to prepare you for an active lifestyle. Prehabilitation can be done by everyone of all ages. It can help a teenager that is looking to perform well in sports or a senior looking to maintain their mobility, prehab can help anyone.
Rehab Hero offers Acupuncture in the form of Medical Acupuncture, with or without intramuscular stimulation (IMS) or electro-acupuncture. The benefits of acupuncture include pain relief, release of local growth hormone, and improved local vascularization. It is used for improved healing and is used for restarting the healing process of nerves and muscles.
